History
History Intent
At St Clement’s Catholic Primary School we want our children to gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Runcorn and Britain’s past and that of the wider world. Our Children will learn key knowledge, concepts, vocabulary and skills as set out in the National Curriculum.
Children at St Clement’s will have the opportunity to learn about how and why things change and how events shape the present and future of our country. They will use a range of historical resources including artefacts, books, pictures and photographs through primary and secondary sources and, where possible, we will incorporate visits to relevant local places of interest. Each unit will focus on several enquiry questions and key vocabulary aimed at cementing learning. The units will build upon prior learning and develop a sense of chronology, so that children can recognise when key events happened and make links between diverse societies and civilisations across the world. They will be taught in blocks, once per term, in order to provide children will a deep understanding of history, with frequent opportunities to revisit prior learning and build upon it. Links to other subjects, such as Geography, will only be made if meaningful or relevant.
