Music Intent
The National Curriculum for music aims to ensure that all children:
- Perform, listen to, review and evaluate music
- Be taught to sing, create and compose music
- Understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated
At St. Clement's Catholic Primary School, our music curriculum intends to capture children's imagination and enhance their understanding and experience of music. Our children will learn that music is a universal language, embodying one of the highest forms of creativity, and explore music from a range of genres, time periods and cultures. It is important that our children understand the importance of music and develop respect, understanding and appreciation towards all types of music and the purpose it serves.
All children will have the opportunity to develop their talent as musicians by playing instruments and making music together, increasing their confidence and love for music along the way. Children will learn and use musical vocabulary, building on prior knowledge as they progress throughout their school journey. By listening and responding to a range of music and exploring the interrelated dimensions of music through singing, improvisation, composing and performing, children will be equipped with the key skills and knowledge needed to develop a rich engagement with music and, in turn, flourish within the school and wider community.
